I received an email this morning that asked the following:
Hey Dave, love the site, looks like a real good deal…..but you don’t have any listings for my city (Houston)…..boo-hoo! Seriously, I am looking for a rental home or condo in Houston. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
I get these email every so often, sometimes they are nice like this one and sometimes they can be from very upset people. I usually respond to these email this way:
Rich, sorry we don’t have any listings in Houston currently. My best advice to go to www.Oodle.com because that is where all my major competitors list there rentals in Houston. Or if you like you can go to RentClicks.com, RentalHouses.com, RentalHomesPlus.com if you want to go directly to the source.
It does suck that I don’t have listings in every city and I know that many people dive deep into the search engine results to find my site. After finding my site they see no listings and I can understand them being upset. But Oodle.com is currently showing just over 1,400 homes and condos in Houston right now so that is why I send them that way.
I could do several things to increase listings to my site so more of my city pages like Houston would have lots of listings which in turn would provide a better user experience for my visitors. But things like providing free or low priced unlimited plans might be a very hard thing to revert later on when my site does better in the search results.
