I agree with Robbie,
I think Dave is an exceptional seo and he has really reached a good balance with his business.
I also hope to see him succeed because, in addition to being really good at web development, he is a really nice guy.
He deserves to make a million.

That's just the way I see it. I say the cool million because my guess is that is what cleveland rents sold to rentalhouses.com for...

Chad,
As for localized sites ....I can tell you it will be very, very hard for them to enter some of these markets and compete.

Regardless of how deep the pockets are. I have been working non stop for two years to get my regional site to where it is today.

And I'm talking 30-40 hours per week just for one market.

So it will be a great challenge for anyone to do it. But I wish them luck!

As for rentvine.com I think there direct competition is rentalhomesplus.com

I say this because neither one of them really dominate any market that I have seen. I think both of them entered the market about the same time, early 2006 I think?

They both have come along ways with exposure and there websites. But I think Dave has come a little farther in ranking in search engines than rhp from my observation.

That comes from Daves extensive knowledge of seo. Any large company can hire an seo guy..But I can tell you Dave is not your average seo Joe. :)

Look at what he has done with his site, his ranking, his awareness of his competition. I have not seen this with rhp or any national chain in the market.

I think in the next 2 years Dave will no longer be able to work from his home anymore..(My prediction for 2008)

I admire Dave and his efforts more than I can admire a "national" company...I will always pull for the underdog! Dave is truly the underdog going up against rhp, rentclick, rentalhouses.

It will be very interested to see how it all pans out in the next two years...

And I will be here to watch...I just hope when Dave becomes the next multi million dollar national chain he will buy me out for a cool million or two and I can quit my job and live on the beach!

Just my two cents!

Dave, just started reading your blog and really enjoy it. I am a small property manager in the T-Bay area and can honestly say not to discount Rentalads.com. I have a few of my properties listed with them (a few leads - nothing overwhelming to date), but hear they have aggressive plans for later this year. I have talked to one of their office manager's and they believe the future of rental listing services is a national service with localized area sites. (ie they know these specified sites will rank better in search engines compared to the big guys who have the same page layout for every city, state, etc…)

Rentalads Tampa (on homepage) is their beta and supposedly they have an entire team dedicated to building subsites for all the major markets in Florida. I have seen some of their employment ads in the Tampa Tribune looking for reps in various cities in Florida. Not sure if they are going to be localized sales reps or possibly franchisees within each city. I was also told Rentalads Tampa was going to be updated later this summer to an entirely new interface along with new subsites for Orlando and Jacksonville. I guess they understand how important Florida is to market share in the rental industry. Going to be interesting to watch over the next few months as their ideas are different than what is currently being offered. Apparently they are sufficiently funded to have these expansion plans.

Robbie,

Wow, thanks for the complements! That would be awesome if RentVine became the next market leader.

You might be right about RentalAds, I would be interested to know who you would pick as the next direct competitor should be if I took RentalAds off the list?

Dave,
In my opinion only, I do not believe Rentalads.com would be "competition" for you.

Your site is beginning to do very well in rankings. They pretty much do nothing with there site. They have a very, very nice platform! But in my opinion they do not utilize the great possibilities that are avaiable to them.

I think "Rentvine.com" will be the next market leader!

Having the seo eye like you....I see alot that you do and you are on the right track to just dominate search as well as word of mouth nationwide!

Keep doing what you do!

Thanks Brian for letting us know.

On that same note, RentVine allows for a company logo and link to your site - however we have not done anything with the toll free number yet.

Dave,

We offer 3 ads a 30 day for $49 ( currently at a $39 special rate), 60 Day for $79, and a Run Till It Rents for $99.

Also, blog readers need to know that there are differences in the features that are offered by each company. For example, RHP allows companies to include a logo and link to their website, whereas, Rentclicks/Rentals does not. RHP also offers a toll free lead tracking number for our Managment company advertisers.
