When studying the Rental.com site (beta) and comparing it to RentClicks.com it appears that both are near duplicates of one another.
Sure the home page is a bit different (although most of the text is the same) but look at the state and city pages - they are about 95% the same in text, layout and URL structure.
I think it is a bit funny that CSI is telling us:
“By leveraging the best features of three sites we are able to streamline operations and provide innovative new features without compromising our premier customer service.”
I can’t see any of the others sites (HomeRentalAds and RentalHouses) mixed in to Rental.com at all.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but the only reason they are switching RentClicks content over to Rentals.com is because the like the domain name Rentals.com better?

Dave,
That was their plan all along. If they are leveraging the best features from the three sites ( translation: re-branding Rentclicks) why are they keeping Rentalhouses?
Very good question - why not redirect RentalHouses.com as well?
Rentalhouses was a dog compared to Rentclicks in traffic and especially in revenue!
Looks like the sale reps are telling the PMs that “RentClicks is not going away but rather it is just a name change” Hum….
Jason,
This appears to be true since rental.com is a duplicate of RentClicks.com.
According to there statements this change is going to be for the better, right? All these great features from 3 great sites brought together plus text messaging off signs! If it doesnt work out they can just buy some more sites and do a redirect off them.
I don’t know about you, but if I were David Borden or Jonathan Hartley and worked my @ss off for 5 years creating the number one site to see it disappear over the course of a week I would be a little ticked off.
But on the other hand both David and Jonathan are probably sitting on a beach in the Caribbean right now having a cold beer and not worrying about anything that is going on.
Is it me or am I the only thinking that the reason they are keeping RentalHouses and not RentClicks is because David and Jonathan are probably sitting on a beach and Steve Huey is still working there and RentalHouses is his baby?
Steve Huey must be determined to make rentalhouses profitable or he forgot which one made money?
Huey is an accountant. He knows that Rentclicks ran circles around Rentalhouses in National reach, Clients, Number of Ads, Quality of their Sales Force and most importantly REVENUE!
The following are excerpts from Huey’ personal equity company’s website:
Founded in 2007 by Mr. Huey soon after successfully leading a turnaround effort and sales engagement as Chief Operating Officer of Rentalhouses.com. Huey Equity’s Partners have been associated with more than thirty transactions totaling more than $4.5 billion, including both public and private entities.
Steven A. Huey
Steve is a dynamic, results oriented leader with a proven track record of sustainable performance in high tech industries.
His most recent engagement was that of Chief Operating Officer of RentalHouses.com where he helped in the turnaround and sale of the company.
(Note: His most recent engagement.)
( He turned around Rentalhouses in 8 months? How…..by giving away the product for $99.00 to $299.00 for all your listings to make things look good to CSI and have them way overpay???)
( Is it just me or does anyone else think it is strange that the founder of Rentahouses gets no love! Massey is still with them but does not seem to be involved in any management capacity and Huey gets all the credit!)
He utilizes his business acumen, strong operational abilities and customer focus to develop and implement strategic plans that result in profitable market growth.
( Profitable growth? What a joke! Rentalhouses was barely hanging on and their investors were not happy! CSI rode in with the cash and saved them! I would of thought CSI had heard of “due diligence”!)
accomplishments include:
Co-led the turnaround effort at RentalHouses.com where during his eight month tenure he helped the company triple sales, and listings as well as position the company as the market leader in listings within the top 50 US markets. This led to the company’s sale in January 2007 to Consumer Source, Inc.
( You notice he boasts he tripled sales……..but what about the REVENUE Steve?)
( Positioned position the company as the market leader in listings within the top 50 US markets. That is just flat out not true. Rentclicks held the #1 spot!)
(This led to the company’s sale in January 2007 to Consumer Source, Inc. For way too much money! And they put Huey in Charge! Crazy world alright!)
Bitter, bitter, bitter.
Frank,
Actually I am not bitter at all - this is a good thing for RentVine.com.
Frank,
What is you version? If you have one!
Frank Drebbin…..sounds like a NAME OUT OF A BAD MOVIE!
Speak up Frank!
Frank Drebbin,
You sound a little ” quirky” to me!
Thinking on the national level….Everytime I think of who will dominate in the major markets I think of Rentvine.com and I hear that song in the back of my head…
“we will, we will, rock you!”
David and I will dominate the big guys - become rich then just compete with each other for fun.
I got your back brother!
