Google is starting to scare me again.
When Googlebase came out I got scared because I thought almighty Google would displace sites like mine or Rentals.com by providing listing content.
Watch this video of Justin McCarthy from Google.
Now it sounds like Google is going to start getting more aggressive and perhaps “shove their own real estate or rental listings down our throats” in the search results.
Of course Justin McCarthy did not come out and say this, but I think Google secretly wants to displace the MLS system and sites like mine.

Thanks for the pointer to this video. Definitely not surprising though — seems like it’s only a matter of time before the various search engines start bubbling up classified-ad style listing content directly in the search results… it’s a better search experience and falls straight in the bailiwick of a search engine. Well why not? We already have other sites tilting at the MLS and causing waves. Google is actually late to the party here IMHO.
I expect all the realtor boards etc are a little worried about this because if they cannot sell MLS data any more then they’ll lose significant revenue.
