I needed to buy a new computer, not because my computer is having issues but my wife’s computer is dying. So I purchased a nice new one for myself and give her my old one.
Of course when you purchase a new computer these days it includes Vista the new OS from Microsoft.
Getting the new computer going has been a pain and very frustrating! I consider myself very knowledgeable about networking computers since that is something I did in great detail at my last job, but getting the Vista machine to network to my XP and 2000 machines was a pain. I finally got it working after 4 hours but it should not be that hard.
The next item I came up against was my printer. HP does not have a driver for my 3100 printer for Vista. And it sounds like they have no desire to make one. Without it I can not print to that computer through my network from my new Vista machine. So I will need to purchase another one!
I also found out that my QuickBooks 2006 will not work on Vista and I need to purchase the 2007 version – more money to spend!
I am not even done loading all my programs on the Vista machine so I am sure to find more stuff I will need to buy.
