Since I have ranked for the phrase “VRBO” for awhile in the top 10 on Google I can see when people are searching for vacation rentals.
It appears most people start their search for vacation rentals in late October to mid November. To me this makes sense because that is the time my wife used HomeAway.com for our next vacation.
Google Analytics is really cool for finding out these neat trends.

Hi Dave -
I have a property on VRBO and can confirm what Google is showing you about VRBO. Most of the inquiries happen in Oct and Nov - at least for ski condos. It is also interesting to compare it to homeaway.com. You’ll see that VRBO continues to “blow the doors” off of any other service. I’ve tried the others for renting my place but have decided to stick with VRBO because it brings so much traffic.

Thomas,
Thanks for stopping by. I have heard that VRBO pulls an amazing amount of leads.
I like your WordPress site, you should add more to it.
That appears to be a dramatic spike. I checked out the site analytics on compete.com and it showed a lift in July not Nov which seems to be a bit off (based on your info as well as Thomas’ note)

I also saw pickpackgo.com recently posted a note stating Jan 2 was the busiest rental day booking of the year.

Either way, vacation rentals are on the rise. All new homes are going to need owner closets and garages so the rest of us can enjoy!
McFads,
I think you are right my graph is not correct.
Hi, interesting insights into the very popular and growing vacation rental by owner marketplace. I have been blogging about VRBO best practices and been providing useful articles and advice for vacation home owners who want to rent by owner. Very interesting informaation. VRBO is probably still the leader in the industry, although a lot of owners have said enquiries have reduced since the Homeaway acquisition.
By the way, you can find a review of VRBO (from a vacation rental owners perspective) here:

I have a property on VRBO and I see a traffic spike seasonally each year so I put my property on CHBO and now I receive income year round.
