In the spirit of openness, I have made my Bloglines account public for everyone to see what I am reading on the net.
I do delete feeds off my account sometimes after I have not received much benefit from them and I add new ones occasionally. So if you see your blog listed you should be happy.
The only off line publications that I read are Wired and National Geographic Magazines.
When I was an acoustical consultant and used to do a fair amount of traveling, I would read books from Tom Clancy and others - those days are sadly gone. I just don’t have time for novels.

Hi Dave, Tell Kristen that Jo Ann got me a copy of Freakonomics yesterday. The Bagel man is another “data man” like you and I. Good story on the hidden side of economic issues.

Dave,
What do you know about thatrentalsite.com? I am furious to find it a bogus site and that it takes advantage of people in very vulnerable situations–out of homes, looking for a place to live–if you know anything about this I hope you’ll put a stop to it immediately.
MadMom,
Sorry you are having issues with that site.
I do not have anything to do with that site at all, please contact them directly.
I notice that their site is down. I wonder what is going on?
Madmom,
I founded ThatRentalSite.com and I’m sorry you’ve had problems using our site.
To be clear, did you have problems with ads posted by advertisers on the site? Or problems with something we did?
My first guess is that you may have had a problem with an ad posted by a fraudulent poster, someone posting a property that is not theirs and then requesting deposit money or other funds up-front to hold the property.
We’ve had a number of complaints about people, particularly Nigerians, posting bogus ads on the site. This is a pervasive problem, and actually much worse on sites like Craigslist, Backpage, Kijji, etc. Whenever we get a complaint about a posting, we take it down within 24 hours, usually less. If you see something suspicious or someone requests money from you up-front, email support@thatrentalsite.com and we’ll take down their ad.
The longer term fix is that we’ll soon shut down ThatRentalSite.com posting to non-US IP addresses. We recently purchased a database that enables us to do “IP geocoding” so we can identify and block international users. While there’s no 100% fix to the problem of bogus ads, we think this will knock quite a few of the perpetrators off of ThatRentalSite.com. This fix will be going live within a month.
Again, apologies for the trouble you’ve had with our site and let me know if I’ve misdiagnosed the exact problem you have.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Bencken
