Since RentVine is as old as my youngest daughter I thought it was time to give RentVine a face lift after 3 years.
I started working on this before Christmas and thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong. It is not hard, but it is taking much longer than I expected.
Mostly I am changing the CSS file which controls the look of the site. I am close to being done, hopfully it will only take another week to finish.
One of the things I am doing is increasing the width of the page by around 140 pixels. I noticed big sites like Amazon, EBay and many others have gone to a width over 940 pixels. Mine won’t be that wide because still 8% of my visitors have a resolution at 800 pixels.
Once the LCD monitor came out it was amazing how many people all of a sudden had high resolutions because the LCD monitor’s native resolution is set up that way out of the box and the old CRT’s had to be set manually.

Looking forward to seeing the changes!
Maybe its another prediction…800px users will be very few and far between by the end of 2008…
I have a 24″ LCD monitor, on one side I have Dreamweaver running and on the other is Firefox when I am in development mode. When the web page is at 850px or less it works out nice, too wide and then not so good.
That is why I am not going to 950px website on my 1920 resolution monitor. Sometimes it is not all about the user!
Funny,
I have struggled with my site width forever!
I guess I will leave what I got for now..Seems to work ok.
Sometimes working with CSS can be such as pain. However it has gotten better since IE does have as many quirks anymore.
Dave,
Your killing me over here….Gimme a beta site to look at or something….I hate suspense!
Robbie,
I am switching it over tomorrow night. I showed the changes to my wife and she thought I hadn’t changed anything! Oh, well.
