Take Control of Your Deposit Categories in Rentvine
Security deposits are a crucial part of lease agreements—but lumping everything into a single “deposit” line doesn’t give tenants or your team the clarity they deserve. That’s why our dev team rolled out a powerful enhancement: deposit categorization in Rentvine.
With just a few clicks, you can now assign specific types to each deposit in your Chart of Accounts and automatically populate them in your RentSign documents, emails, and letters. Whether you’re collecting a pet deposit, a cleaning fee, or a key deposit, this update helps organize it all—while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
How to Set It Up
Here’s how to activate and use this feature:
Step 1: Update Your Chart of Accounts
Go to Settings > Chart of Accounts
Select an existing liability account (this is key—the account must be a liability type)
Click Edit
Enable “Track as Security Deposit”
Choose a Deposit Type from the dropdown:
General
Pet
Cleaning
Key
Other
Click Save
Example:
Categorizing a cleaning deposit will now allow you to reference it specifically in templates and RentSign documents.
Why It Matters
Categorizing deposits gives you:
Clearer lease documents for tenants
Easier tracking and reporting on deposits held
More professional, automated templates
Consistency across your documents and communication

Welcome back to another Rentvine Academy. I'm your host Alex Cordova, sales engineer here at Rentvine.
And our dev team does not stop, guys. New feature today—you’re going to be able to categorize your deposit types in your chart of account settings to use them in your RentSign, email, and letter templates.
Super easy setup. We're going to navigate to your settings. Scroll down to Chart of Accounts. I’m going to use a cleaning deposit as an example.
The reason being, you need to have a liability account type for this feature to work.
Select Edit, scroll down, enable "Track as Security Deposit", and now you’ll see a dropdown menu. Choose from:
General
Pet
Cleaning
Key
Other
In this scenario, we’re using cleaning, then click Save.
Now in RentSign, let’s search “deposit” in the hot fields—you’ll see how the system breaks the deposit types down.
Another change is we now support Specialized Deposits—this includes all deposit types except General, grouped into one hot field for use in your documents.
That’s it for this week’s Rentvine Academy. Thanks for tuning in—and remember: our dev team doesn’t stop. Come back next week for more.
